Liston Front Range
Lighthouses of Delaware
As part of the continuing effort by the United States government to improve navigation of the Delaware Bay and River, the Liston Front Range light station was established on the banks of the Delaware River.  This front range lighthouse worked in conjunction with the Liston Rear Range Lighthouse to mark specific shipping lanes.  Established in 1906 and constructed in 1907 in Greek revival style, the Liston Front Range lighthouse was a basic keeper dwelling with a lantern room placed on top of the structure, giving the overall structure a height of a modest forty-five feet.

Today the lighthouse remains in good condition and is privately owned.  The lighthouse itself is no longer an active aid to navigation, but a short modern metal tower now serves as the front range light and is located on the grounds of the original building.

To visit the Liston Front Range Lighthouse, take Hwy. 1 north to exit 152 (just west of Port Penn).  Turn right onto US 13 and continue to Port Penn Rd.  Make a left onto Port Penn Road and continue to the small community of Port Penn.  Make a right onto Route 9 and continue traveling south until you cross Augustine Creek.  Once you cross the creek, Route 9 will make a sharp turn to the right and there will be a small road to the left.  Make a left and travel until it dead ends.  Make another right turn and continue until the road ends and the lighthouse will be visible in front of you.  The station is located on private property so please be respectful when visiting.
